Anti-Wrinkle Injections
ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
As more and more people are turning to cosmetic treatments to enhance and rejuvenate their face, anti-wrinbukle injections are one of the main treatment options performed by Dr Manal Youssef at MY Natural Look Clinic in Melbourne.
Anti-wrinkle injections are prescription-only medicine and should be administered only by qualified medical professionals.
Due to restrictions by regulatory authorities (TGA), the brand names of the anti-wrinkle injections are not mentioned in this website.
In order to create a refreshed, soft and natural-looking appearance, a personalised anti-wrinkle treatment plan is carefully worked out and administered by our trained medical practitioner maintain facial expression, avoiding the infamous tell-tale ‘frozen-face’.
What are Anti-wrinkle Injections?
The active ingredient of anti-wrinkle injections is a natural, purified protein.
The treatment is a non-surgical procedure during which a small amount of anti-wrinkle injection is administered into specific facial muscles involved in wrinkle formation using a very fine needle.
As we age, changes occur in different areas of our face due to repeated muscle movement. For example, dynamic lines may appear in the forehead and around the eyes when we smile or frown because various muscles contract to form different facial expressions. Over time, these expression lines become a little deeper and turn into more permanent static lines, even when your face is at rest.
Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing the targeted wrinkle-causing facial muscles that cause dynamic lines, resulting in a refreshed facial appearance with a relaxed and natural look.
Anti-wrinkle Injection Treatment Areas
The most common facial areas treated with anti-wrinkle injections are glabellar frowns, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
Glabellar frown lines are vertical lines that appear between you eyebrows when you frown.Forehead lines are horizontal lines that form when you raise your eyebrows.
Crow’s feet are lines that radiate from the corners of our eyes and are particularly pronounced when we squint or smile.
Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to create an eyebrow lift, stop the mouth from pulling down, reduce gummy smiles (by lowering the upper lip), and reduce neck bands.
What does Anti-wrinkle Treatment Involve?
Treatment with anti-wrinkle injections is a quick and simple procedure which involves injecting the specific facial muscles with a small amount of the anti-wrinkle injection.
The treatment procedure generally takes only about 10 minutes to perform. As the needles used are extremely fine and only very small volumes are being injected, you will experience minimal pain.
No anaesthetic is usually required as the discomfort is just brief stinging from the injection for a few seconds.
There is usually no downtime and you can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.
Results of Anti-wrinkle Treatment
Generally, you can start to see the effects of anti-wrinkle injections within 4-5 days of your treatment. However, it may take up to 10-14 days for the complete effect to be visible.
As anti-wrinkle injections treat wrinkles caused by the contraction of facial muscles, you will gradually notice a gradual relaxation of the muscles treated. Treatment will only relax the muscles beneath the facial lines at the point of injection, so you may expect other facial expression to remain unaffected.
The effects of anti-wrinkle injection treatment usually last up to Four months and gradually decrease over time. If you decide not to have further treatments, the muscles will eventually return to their former activity, and your wrinkles will gradually and naturally reappear, reverting to their pre-treatment levels but do not become worse.
Studies have shown that regular anti-wrinkle injection treatments given at 3-4 month intervals are more reliable and may last longer due to progressive weakening of the muscles treated.
Safety of Anti-wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections have been internationally approved for over 20 years and have been shown to be generally well tolerated when administered in the low levels required for cosmetic use.
In the majority of cases, any side effects are temporary and limited to the injection site and may include pain, burning, or stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site; local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids or eyebrows; swollen eyelids and skin tightness, tingling sensations, itching or aching forehead, headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms.
Normal activities may be resumed after anti-wrinkle treatment. However, avoid lying down, or touching, rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 4 hours.Speak with your doctor if you have any concerns about side effects.Your doctor will review and assess the results of your anti-wrinkle injection treatment at your follow-up appointment two weeks later.
Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly combined with other cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers (which replace volume under the skin) and skin treatments to correct texture, and pigmentation issues.
