What is Dermapen Skin Needling?
Dermapen skin needling therapy procedure is carried out using a dermal roller or stamp mechanism that has multiple needles of different sizes to create microscopic punctures in the skin.
Different needle sizes and treatment protocols (frequency and number of treatments) are applied for different indications.
Skin needling therapy is also known as collagen induction therapy because the needles create tiny punctures in the skin and encourages the body’s natural response for wound healing process and starts the production of new collagen in the underlying layers of the skin.
As a result of the production and distribution of new collagen, repair and rejuvenation of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles takes place.
What does Dermapen Skin Needling Involve?
About 30 minutes before the procedure is commenced, a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area being treated. This will help to minimise the skin’s sensitivity throughout the procedure, and the only sensation you should feel is some light pressure during the actual Skin Needling process.
The skin needling procedure breaks the skin barrier and creates microchannels that allow the delivery of therapeutic solutions such as stem cells and liquid gold into the skin.
Hence, following the procedure, high absorption of active ingredients of mesotherapy products and liquid gold may be used to give better results for smoothing wrinkles and lines and improving skin texture, scarring, and stretch marks.
Results of Dermapen Skin Needling
Each patient’s situation is different and results can vary. Visible treatment results will usually require multiple sessions. In general, three to eight treatments are recommended, but certain skin problems may require up to ten sessions.
Improvement in skin tone and texture will start to show within six to eight weeks and will continue to improve drastically in the following months, depending on what has been treated.
After a series of treatments, a considerably significant improvement will be noticeable, including smoother skin, improved skin tone, reduction of scars and pitting, improvement of stretch marks, and reduction in fine lines.
Safety of Dermapen Skin Needling
Skin Needling has been performed for many years and is a relatively helpful , tested and reliable procedure, suitable for all skin type.
Post-treatment, you can expect to experience mild to moderate redness, swelling and skin sensitivity or mild pain that may last between twelve to forty-eight hours. Some patients have experienced light bruising that may last for two to three days.
However, this is normally due to the increased pressure applied. After a few days, the area will start to feel dry and tight, but this is a normal occurrence as the skin begins to heal and produce new collagen.
Pre-treatment Guide

Before undergoing skin needling treatment, it is essential to use at least an SPF30+ sunscreen every day and avoid sun exposure or any other form of tanning.
Post-treatment Guide
- Avoid sun exposure and use at least an SPF30+ sunscreen every day.
- Soothe your skin by using the specialised post-care products recommended until the area has settled completely.
Do not use any harsh cleansing agents such as soap or foaming cleansers.
Avoid the following activities until at least 48 hours after skin needling treatment:
- Cosmetic tattooing.
- Excessive gym or cardiovascular exercise.
- Sauna or swimming in chlorinated water pool.
- Solarium, spray-tanning or any form of tanning.
- Shaving (12-24 hours).
For at least four days after treatment:
- Do not use any products containing any active ingredients or exfoliants, including AHA’s (Glycolic and Lactic Acids), BHA’s (Salicylic Acid), Vitamin C, Benzoyl Peroxide, Vitamin A and Retinol.
- .Avoid any highly perfumed products or cosmetics.
